Yes! Children and adolescents can experience high rates of depression and anxiety during the current lockdown due to social isolation. Lack of social interaction (physical contact with friends, teachers, being in other environments) can cause symptoms of loneliness. Childhood depression is real and parents may overlook the symptoms. Symptoms include sadness, withdrawal, irritability, not able to concentrate, change in appetite and sleep, low energy, and feeling tired. Some children may need professional help during the lockdown, but there are several things parents can do to make the quarantine experience better. Parents should:
1. Find out how the child is feeling and try to answer their questions and
encourage them.
2. Spend time completing varying positive activities with your child to ease
concerns
3. Remind them that things will gradually get better
