During the pandemic, children are prone to experience worry, anxiety, stress, and fear. Due to the closure of schools as a precautionary measure children may lack structure and encouragement. They have less chance to be with their friends where they can acquire social interaction and support that is fundamental for their mental well-being.
Children are infuriated by the lack of interaction with their friends and teachers. The most vulnerable children most times experience an increase in hunger due to not benefiting from the schools’ feeding program, domestic violence, child abuse, and community violence. These children if not helped through therapy are likely to experience depression. However, some children experience benefits such as reduced stress and more family time. There should be proactive measures in place to address the mental health of children during COVID 19.
