Do you know a child struggling to understand what is being said? Having difficulty speaking? This child needs help – he/she may not have mastery in language milestone when compared to other children at their developmental level. This could be a sign of language or speech delay. The child has difficulty in attaining and using language (spoken, written) base on a deficit in understanding and communicating thoughts by not able to put words together (child do not know the words to use). Language disorder can happen with other learning disorders that affect the child’s ability to read and write.
Children with this disorder are often upset, angry because they are not able to understand others or make themselves understood. They will display behavioural problems, anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Children with autism spectrum disorder may also have challenges with language. These challenges make it difficult for children to function in school, and usually, educators do not understand what is happening or is not equipped to deal with the disorder. Children with this disorder need to be assessed by a speech-language therapist
