Why do we justify child sexual abuse towards adolescence? A 14 year old cannot be in a relationship because she is considered a minor therefore she is being abuse and exploited. Many parents have condoned inappropriate intimate relations of their children. These relationships must be reported. Child sexual abuse is a form of child abuse that includes sexual activity with a minor. A child cannot consent to any form of sexual activity. When a perpetrator engages with a child this way, they are committing a crime.
A number of adolescent girls engage in sexual relations with older men for various reasons such as: poverty, lack of love, being threatened, and peer pressure. The law must take full effect against these perpetrators so that they do not see it as a right to engage minors into sexual relations. Some are of the view that if a child/adolescent has consented then the perpetrator should not be blamed. Guess what? They cannot consent as they are minors. The perpetrators should take full responsibility for not engaging an adolescent in an intimate relationship. Parents, guardians, and caregivers report these relationships. It is important for persons to become educated on adolescent development so as to understand their vulnerability for getting abused.
